We have a dynamic music and cultural arts ministry where our church family has the opportunity to express their artistic gifts while giving praises to God.

Assistant to the Pastor, Music & Cultural Arts

Dr. Prince Yelder is one of the most prolific musicians and composers in the country. He has traveled around the world in music ministry. Prince was born on December 25th, 1966 in Charleston, SC but moved to Birmingham to pursue a career in music. He has traveled many times to Japan conducting seminars on gospel music. Prince is also a composer with the Gospel Music Workshop of America, the largest Gospel convention in the world. Prince recorded his arrangement of “Just A Little Talk With Jesus”with the GMWA in 1996.  That song is featured on the CD entitled, “Mercy That Suits”.

He has also recorded with the GMWA Women of Worship. In March 2000, Prince recorded with James Bignon and his 400-voiced mass choir. The tune entitled “He Made The Difference” on that project swept the country. Prince is featured as a lead vocalist and also credited as a session director for the album. In 2003, Rev. Yelder performed with his choir, Disciples for Christ, on the Stellar Awards with Angela Spivey. 

He has worked with such notables as Kirk Franklin, Tramaine Hawkins, Douglas Miller, Yvette Plunder, Al Hobbs, Bobby Jones, Timothy Wright, Milton Biggham, Wanda Nero Butler and others. Rev. Yelder just released his own project with the Disciples For Christ entitled “Work It Out” on Malaco Records. While serving as Minister of Music for New Hope Baptist Church, he also serves in capacity as the minister of music or the music director for the Birmingham Community Mass Choir, GMWA Women of Worship, National Baptist Convention USA, Birmingham SCLC, Heaven 610 WAGG radio and Thanksgiving, Praise & Worship Ministries. Mass Choir

Led by Dr. Prince E. Yelder, New Hope’s Mass Choir is composed of anointed, talented singers who give rousing performances of praises to God. For three years straight, they have been named “Birmingham’s Best Choir” in a Birmingham News Reader Poll. In 2007, they received a coveted “Hoodie Award” presented by Steve Harvey and have performed at a gubernatorial inauguration as well as during the campaign tour for President Barack Obama. Male Chorus

It is always a treat when the New Hope Male Chorus performs. Their blend of tenors, basses and baritones offer a soulful offering of praise to God. All male music ministry. Rehearsals: Tuesday 7:15 & Saturday 11:00 am at our Southwest location.

Herman Stone Choir

Named after New Hope’s beloved former pastor, this choir features the dynamic voices of the youth up to ages 17. Every second Sunday, they bring the church to their feet with spirited performances of contemporary, uplifting songs that offer praise to God with a youthful flair. Youth music ministry. Rehearsals: Monday & Tuesday before the 2nd Sunday, 6:30pm at Southwest location.

Spirit of Levi Inspirational Singers

Each member of this talented chorale can very well be a lead vocalist on their own, but together the voices of the Spirit of Levi blend into a melodic sound that gets you on your feet and gives praises to God. Advanced praise & worship ministry. The praise team is for singers that have advanced skill in music & able to lead worship.Rehearsals: Mon & Tues before the 3rd Sunday 6:30 (Mon.) & 7:15 (Tues.) at Southwest location.

Silent Voices

Every second Sunday, this group of lively young people perform dramatic interpretations of inspirational songs and do so with the grace of a dancer and the precision of a soldier. Sign/interpretive dance ministry. The Silent Voices minister at various events.

Saints in Worship

Every fourth Sunday, the adults of New Hope perform an inspiring and uplifting dance performance that ushers in the presence of God.  Dance ministry. The Saints in Worship ministers dance routines during services and special events.
